Photography has been long referred
as the “marriage of science and the divine”.
The science of photography is amazing and must be mastered. Exposure, f-stop, ISO, and depth of field have been with us for a hundred years. In the era of digital photography millions of pixels, gigabytes of flash, terabytes of storage servers, redundant online servers, and calibrated monitors are key and take months and years to master.
However, it is the magic of photography that makes people love photos. A great family vacation photo is much more valuable than the technically perfect shot of a child whose face clearly suggests they don’t want to be photographed. Creating a deep, human emphatic connection between photographer and subject is the highest goal a portrait photographer can reach.
Photographers who have tapped into this aspect open up a channel than enables energy to pour through their camera. Some photographers call it being in “the zone”. It is a place where they forget about time and space and are truly present with what is in front of them. Work such as this takes time. Rushing the result only chokes the magic.
Photographers who work to develop their visions are technically savvy, and have a deep respect for the unknown, the intangible that infuses all art.
For Darla, the magic of working with children and performing arts reach that goal. Working with Darla means getting a great result at the same time having the patience to let the creative energy flow.
